Dog Retrieved From House On Fire

Polmanter Water, Halsetown, St Ives at 01/07/2011 12:20

Two crews from St Ives attended a call to a single storey cottage with smoke issuing from it. St Ives crews used rapid deployment to enter the premise as occupancy of the cottage on their arrival was unknown. It was soon established that the premise was evacuated, however fire crews retrieved a dog from the building. Crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire which was confined to a corner of the lounge.
One neighbour and the premise occupant were treated by Ambulance crews for smoke inhalation. Once the fire had been extinguished a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the premise.
It was soon established that the fire started accidentally.
Luckily a neighbour noticed smoke coming from this premise and called 999.
There were no working smoke detectors in this cottage and if the neighbours had not spotted the fire there may have been far worse consequences.
