At 14:32 hrs this afternoon, Cornwall Fire Control received a call to a rubbish fire and mobilised one Major Appliance from Newquay. From repeat 999 calls it soon became obvious that the fire was spreading to a near by two storey shop, a second appliance was mobilised. On the arrival of fire crews immediately requested ‘make pumps three’ the building involved measured 20 x 30 m square, crews passed an informative reporting the fire had spread to the rear of a shop, LPG cylinders were involved and that two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were in use. At 14:47 the fire was out, crews were using four breathing apparatus to cut away at the building, exposing any remaining hot spots. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear any smoke present from the building.
It is believed that this fire may have been started deliberately and incident details have been passed to Devon and Cornwall Police.
