At 16:51 Cornwall Fire Control received 25 999 calls reporting gorse on fire at Sharrow Point, Whitsand Bay, Torpoint. Two appliances from Torpoint were mobilised to this incident and before they were on scene crews reported large volumes of smoke in the area that they were investigating. Crews soon discovered 200 square metres of gorse which was stretching 200 foot down over cliffs. Crews made pumps two, and a second major appliance was mobilised from Liskeard. Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets. One hydrant near Tregantle Fort was being used to supply the hose reels. Fire crews also used six beaters.
This gorse fire started as a result of accidental ignition from a bar b que. Crews are still damping down and will be remaining on scene for some time.
