Cornwall County Fire Brigade is pleased to announce the appointment of a new post, Deputy Chief Fire Officer and the post holder Matthew Littmoden.
After an intensive assessment and interview process in October the Executive of Cornwall County Council approved the appointment of Senior Divisional Officer Matthew Littmoden. Matthew is transferring from Essex Fire and Rescue Service and will look to move down to Cornwall early next year.
Matthew started his career as a firefighter in 1978 with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. He was promoted to the rank of Leading Firefighter in 1985, Sub Officer in 1990, Station Officer in 1993 and Assistant Divisional Officer in 1994.
In 1997 he undertook the role of Divisional Commander. One of the most horrific incidents he attended was the Korean 747 crash at Stansted in which a cargo plane crashed with three people on board.
Matthew Littmoden will take up the post of Deputy Chief Fire Officer in January but will be detached until the end of May 2004 as he is currently studying on the Brigade Command Course at Moreton in the Marsh.
Matthew Littmoden said: “I am excited about moving to Cornwall and working within its impeccable Fire Service. Cornwall is a ‘go ahead’ brigade with strong support from Cornwall County Council.
He added: “It is refreshing to see a Fire Brigade and County Council that work so closely together to achieve the ultimate aim of keeping the people of Cornwall safe. Tackling a project as large as the Private Finance Initiative demonstrates this, and illustrates how Cornwall is prepared to invest in its valuable Fire Service”
Outside of his busy fire service career Matthew Littmoden is keen to keep fit and enjoys walking, swimming and skiing. Matthew hopes to move to the Truro area
