The Boatyard, Bryher, Isles of Scilly at 09/07/2011 00:34
Fire crews from the islands of Bryher, Tresco and St Marys attended a report of a fire in a container. It was suspected that the container was used to store fuel, so the firefighters used defensive firefighting tactics to cool the container using a jet.
Subsequently, information became available to confirm that no fuel was stored in the metal container and that it had been used earlier to burn waste, that must have re-ignited.
The fire had been fully extinguished by 0130hrs.
The fire crew and equipment from Tresco were transferred by Bryher Boats, whilst the St Marys fire crew and equipment were conveyed by the Ambulance boat. Their assistance is greatly appreciated.
Note:
The Isles of Scilly Fire and Rescue Service is seperate to Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service. However, Fire Control based at Truro carry out the emergency call-taking and mobilising function for the Isles of Scilly Fire and Rescue Service.
