Workshop Fire Spread To Outbuildings

Two fire appliances from Falmouth and one fire appliance from Helston were mobilised to reports of a fire in a workshop, that was spreading to outbuildings.

On arrival, the fire crews were faced with a range of outbuildings, believed to be used as workshops on fire. Acetylene and propane gas are believed to be in, or close to the buildings on fire.

Firefighters have set up three ground monitors to extinguish the fire. Two further pumps and a water carrier were requested, which are in attendance from Truro, Redruth and the water carrier is from Wadebridge. Command support vehicles are in attendance from Truro and St Just.

Residents in the area of Carnkie have been requested to stay away from windows.

Update 1630hrs: The fire is now surrounded. Hotspots are being dealt with by the fire crews. Fire hydrants are in use.

5 gas cylinders have been found in the scene of the fire. One has been confirmed as an empty Acetylene cylinder. Crews have been using three ground monitors to cool the cylinders. It total four out buildings and a van have been involved in the fire, covering an area of 10 x 4 m.

At 18:20 hrs Fire crews are still monitoring the cooling cylinders using a thermal imaging camera. Crews will remain on site for several hours continually cooling and monitoring the gas cylinders involved.
