Two fire appliances from Fowey and one fire appliance from St Austell were mobilised to a report from a neighbour of a fire in a property, with a person inside. Moments later a call was received from the occupant, confirming a fire. The occupant was told to leave the property and, with the assistance of the neighbour, they were led outside to safety.
On arrival, the fire crews confirmed that everyone was out and the occupant, suffering smoke inhalation, was cared for by ambulance personnel.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel to quickly extinguish a small fire in the lounge of the bungalow.
A working smoke alarm in the bungalow alerted the neighbour and, upon investigation, they saw the flames through the window. They immediately dialled 999 to summon the fire service, which was the correct action to take and then went to assist the occupant to safety. Without the actions of this person, this incident may well have ended in tragedy.
