Barn Fire

On receipt of this call appliances from Penzance and St. Just and the water carrier from Helston were mobilised, on arrival at the scene there was found to be an open fronted barn, containing straw bales, measuring 15 by 5 metres well alight.

Update at 0230 hours: Crews at this time are using one main jet to fight the fire.

Update at 0300 hours: There are now two main jets in use. Devon & Cornwall Police have been requested as the incident is suspected arson.

Update at 0330 hours: Fire & Rescue personnel are continuing to fight the fire using two main jets and making steady progress.

Update at 0400 hours: The main jets have now been withdrawn at the incident to allow the straw to burn under control.

Update at 0500 hours: The incident is now scaling down to two appliances and the water carrier at this time.

Update at 0530 hours: Fire & Rescue personnel wearing breathing apparatus are using main jets and working with the farmer and farm machinery to brake down the bales at this time.

As at 0645 hours the incident has now been handed over to the farmer who will leave the remaining bales to burn out under control, Cornwall Fire & Rescue resources returning to their home stations.
