Vehicle Fire

A30 eastbound, two miles from Launceston towards Okehampton at 15/08/2011 09:31

Two fire appliances from Launceston attended numerous calls of a vehicle fire.

For safety, the eastbound carriageway was closed whilst firefighters dealt with a "well alight" camper van.

Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, used two hosereels to extinguish the fire. Two gas cylinders were cooled and made safe.

The fire was extinguished by 1010hrs and the fire crews remained on scene for about 30 minutes damping down.

Update 1035hrs: One lane of the eastbound carriageway is now open following its earlier closure. The other lane will remain closed for at least an hour, whilst the Highways Agency clear debris from the road surface and make it safe.
