Pony Rescued From Water Filled Ditch

At 17:58 hrs this evening a call was received stating that a pony had gotten stuck in a drainage ditch in a field and was stuck up to its shoulders in water. One crew from St Ives attended, followed by two crews who were trained in animal rescue with specialist equipment were mobilised from Camborne. One crew with specially trained water rescue equipment also attended from Falmouth.
St Ives crews were first in attendance and found a 13.2 pony called Freddy stuck in a bog. Crews attached a general purpose line to the head of the pony until the specialist equipment from Camborne and Falmouth arrived on scene.
Two fire fighters dressed in dry suits used inflatable rescue paths to reach the animal; the pony was also sedated by a vet. Crews’ placed strops around the animal’s front and rear legs, once the pony had been secured a vehicle mounted crane on the rear of the rescue tender was used to lift Freddy clear of the bog.
At 19:51 this evening the pony had successfully been rescued, crews made up their kit on scene whilst the ponies sedation wore off. Freddy the pony was left in the care of his very grateful owner.
