at 08/09/2011 16:36

Firefighters from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service will be offering to make your car sparkle in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity on National Car Wash Day on Saturday 17 September.

Once again Cornwall’s firefighters are supporting the Autoglym National Car Wash as they join with colleagues from all over the country using specially-formulated car care products donated by Autoglym, the UK’s leading car care experts. The event is to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity which helps thousands of men, women and children from the Fire Service community.

Most car washing events will take place at the community fire station but some will be at local supermarkets or other venues. Check with your local community fire station for details of times and venue. Those confirmed as taking part are:

Every 30 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here to help all Fire Service personnel during their times of need, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

Firmly established on the Fire and Rescue Service calendar, the Autoglym National Car Wash is the Charity's largest national fundraising event of the year. As well as being a fun and popular fundraising event for The Fire Fighters Charity, the car wash also gives firefighters the unique opportunity to share a very serious message about road safety with a large cross-section of their community.

All too often firefighters face the aftermath of fatal road traffic collisions and the devastating impact these incidents have on people’s lives. Tragically, most road deaths are for easily preventable reasons - such as speeding, driving while using a mobile phone, driving tired, drink or drug driving, bad vehicle maintenance, or just not looking out for others.

Chief Executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, John Parry, said: “The Autoglym National Car Wash provides a vital source of income for the Charity, as well as being a fun event with a serious safety message. The public can show their support to our fire fighting heroes by visiting their local fire station on Saturday 17 September - and afterwards drive away safely, in a clean car!"

Autoglym’s Chief Executive, Paul Caller, said: “We are very proud to support The Fire Fighters Charity car wash event. We hope that our contribution, in conjunction with the efforts of the local firefighters, will again raise substantial funds for such a deserving cause.”
