One fire appliance from Camborne attended a report of straw bales alight adjacent to the main A30 trunk road.

Firefighters found approximately six bales of straw well alight, weighing about one ton each. The fire appliance had to be parked on the carriageway, so that a hosereel could be stretched across to douse the flames. Beaters and pitchforks were also used by the firefighters to extinguish the fire by 0040hrs.

The police attended to assist in keeping the firefighters safe whilst they worked alongside the traffic on this busy road. Smoke was also blowing across the carriageway, obscuring the view of drivers putting them in danger.

Arson is suspected and the police are now dealing.
