Carbon Monoxide Within House

Kelly Park, off Station Road, St Mabyn, east of Wadebridge at 10/02/2012 22:42

One fire appliance from Wadebridge Community Fire Station with a crew of six firefighters, a supervisory officer from Bodmin and a specialist hazardous materials officer attending from Launceston, were mobilised to a report of a carbon monoxide detector actuation in a house. The occupants were complaining of symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, so the ambulance service was also requested to attend.

The firefighters administered oxygen to one of the occupants until the arrival of a paramedic. In total, three occupants were treated by ambulance personnel and they attended hospital for checks following carbon monoxide poisoning.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and gas detectors were used to take readings of the level of carbon monoxide. It is believed that fumes from a woodburner caused higher than normal levels of carbon monoxide. The property was ventilated to return the levels to normal.
