At 11:58 this morning Cornwall fire control received a call to a controlled burning which had gotten out of control. One crew of five fire fighters were mobilised from Penzance. Soon after crew’s arrival a request for 'make pumps two', a second appliance from Penzance with six crews was mobilised. Fire crews reported from scene there was a 100 metre fire front which was being allowed to burn towards natural breaks fire crews were using beaters. A land rover was requested to attend to allow better access to the hill. Strong winds are fanning the fire and at 12:39 hrs a request was made for 'pumps three'. 12:57 hrs the informative of gorse burning over multiple fire fronts and that the fire was burning over Mulfra hill. As of 13:15 hrs a total of 21 fire crew are currently in attendance at this fire.
At 13:32 a request for more crew was made, a fourth appliance from St Ives with a further six crew were mobilised to the scene.
At 14:57 hrs fire crews are making good progress on the fire using beaters. Electrical engineers have been requested to attend this incident as overhead power lines have been affected by the incident.
As of 16:20 a total of twenty seven crews from Penzance, St Just and St Ives remain on scene at Mulfra Hill. Crews are making good progress.
As of 18:00 hrs the incident at this time is being scaled down. Two appliances of eleven remain on scene monitoring hot spots.
