At 23:42 hrs on Sunday the 18th Cornwall Fire Control received a call to an old primary school on fire. Two crews from Delabole were mobilised immediately to the incident and were backed up by a crew from Wadebridge. On the way to the incident Delabole crews made up and requested ‘pumps six’. Four further major appliances from Bodmin and Launceston were mobilised to the incident along with four Flexi duty Officers. Along side the major appliances the following specialist equipment was mobilised to the scene, two Command support vehicles from Launceston and St Just, an Operational support vehicle from St Austell and the Welfare vehicle from St Dennis attended the incident. On crews arrival to the incident the building measuring 40 x 10 m was well alight. Crews initially used two main jets supplied by a hydrant on the fire. At 0040 hrs fire crews were making good progress and the incident had been sectorised into three sectors. At 0059 hrs six main jets were in use supplied by three hydrants. Currently a total of 54 fire crew are on the incident ground in Camelford.
At 01:58 hrs the stop message for this incident was passed. Two jets and a hose reel are being used with four breathing apparatus on the fire. Small gear is being used assisting with the damping down.
05:00 hrs - This incident has now been scaled down to three crews providing a waking watch on scene. Two appliances from Delabole and one from Wadebridge remain on scene using 4 hose reel jets to damp down. It is expected these crews will remain on scene for the rest of the night.
Update 1130 hours: A Fire Investigation has taken place, Arson has been confirmed. The incident has now been handed over to a representative of Cornwall Council.
