Gorse Fire

Rosenannon Downs, between St Columb and Wadebridge at 29/03/2012 23:20

Two fire appliances from St Columb Community Fire Station and two fire appliances from Wadebridge Community Fire Station attended a gorse fire with a 600 metre front, being fanned by the wind.

The 15 firefighters in attendance used beaters and hosereels to extinguish the fire by 0030hrs. Arson is suspected and Devon & Cornwall Police have been informed.

Anyone with information on fires being deliberately started in the countryside are advised to anonymously call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111 or contact Devon & Cornwall Police on 101 with information.

Arson puts both the public and firefighters at unnecessary risk. It ties up resources that could be in demand for other more serious incidents. A lot of Cornwall is covered by on-call firefighters so there is also a significant cost to each incident.
