The Fire Fighters Charity, the UK’s leading provider of life-enhancing services for the fire and rescue community together with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, is seeking brave volunteers to abseil down the side of the tower at The Maritime Museum in Falmouth to help raise vital funds.

The sponsored abseil takes place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August 2012 and allows courageous participants to take the plunge and drop over the abyss, then abseil down to the bottom. The experience promises to be thrilling for both adrenalin junkies and more land-loving types – with all participants welcome.

If you are over 18, have no serious medical conditions and are seeking a thrill then this could be the challenge for you! There is a £10 registration fee and you only need to raise a minimum of £45 in sponsorship. All participants will receive a certificate to prove they did indeed take the challenge, while those that successfully raise over £100 will receive a VIP day with an Operational Watch at a local Fire Station.

Mike Perraton, Regional Fundraiser for The Fire Fighters Charity, explains: “We are offering the people in Cornwall, a fantastic opportunity to experience a genuinely thrilling buzz and also raise money for a great cause. The Fire Fighters Charity is available for all members of the fire service community during their times of need, assisting thousands of individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

“We offer a confidential and impartial helpline service, providing advice and support on a broad range of issues, as well as having a nationwide network of professional staff and trained volunteers, who are ready to help locally. We aim to provide practical assistance and solutions to make a real difference to the lives of members of the fire service community. Your brave abseiling efforts can help us make this difference.”

It costs £9m every year to meet the needs of the charity’s beneficiaries, and with no government funding, it is completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community. To take part contact Mike on 07717 895424 or email mperraton@firefighterscharity.org.uk
