Engineer At Cornwall County Fire Brigade Voted Student of the Year

Jack Johns has received the prestigious student of the year award from Cornwall College Engineering Department.

Jack started as a trainee engineer in Cornwall County Fire Brigade when he left school at sixteen. Whilst working for the brigade part time he attended Cornwall College, and completed NVQ III, an H.N.C. and a National Certificate in Motor Vehicles.

Jack Johns explains: “My overall aim was to gain the last certificate and I have finally achieved it after six years of on the job training and studying. I have worked for the Fire Brigade for those six years”

He cont: “I am now capable of servicing and fixing any vehicle, but specifically fire brigade emergency response vehicles”

Jack is part of a six person engineer team, who are on call twenty four hours a day on a one week each basis. He also works full time at the Fire Brigade Engineer Workshops in Camborne.

Among the vehicles Jack can service are fire engines, light portable pumps and four wheel drive vehicles.
