Sea swimmers are being sought for the sixth annual Falmouth Firefighters’ Trident Challenge, taking place at Gyllyngvase Beach on Saturday 11 August.
The popular event, which takes place during Falmouth Week, has gone from strength to strength since 30 hardy souls took to the water in 2007, with almost 200 swimmers competing in the 800 metre race last year.
Organised by watch managers Martyn Addinall (Falmouth Community Fire Station) and Grant Nicholls (Camborne Community Fire Station), the event raises funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, Cancer Research UK and Gyllyngvase Surf Life Saving Club.
“The event came out of a conversation between myself and Grant around six years ago,” said Martyn. “Sea swimming has been around in Falmouth for a long time, but sadly it seemed to be slipping into the history books.
“We’ve seen a steady increase in competitors each year and raised around £4,000 for charity. It’s a great event and fantastic atmosphere – so if you want to get involved, join us!”
All are welcome to take part in the event, which starts at 7pm (registration from 5.30pm). For more information contact Martyn Addinall maddinall@fire.cornwall.gov.uk or Grant Nicholls gnicholls@fire.cornwall.gov.uk or call 01326 212412.
