at 25/07/2012 08:14

A little old school glamour will be coming to Cornwall for the ‘Flashpoint Goes Strictly’ ballroom dancing event, taking place in September.

Amateur ballroom dancers are being sought to take part in the event which is being held at the Eden Project on Saturday 29 September in aid of Bodmin’s Flashpoint Lifeskills Centre.

There will be five dance competitions taking place during the afternoon for couples to compete in – Tango, Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha and Jive. Heats will take place between 2.30pm and 5.30pm and the finals from 6.30pm until around 9.30pm. Music for the event will be provided by the Nighthawks Orchestra.

Dancers can register to take part in as many of the competitions as they like, at a cost of £4 per dance. Or, if you would rather watch than take part, tickets cost £4 to watch the heats, £8 to watch the finals or £10 for the whole event.

“The interest so far has been fantastic and it is shaping up to be a great event,” said organiser Chris Lowthian. “We are interested in hearing from ballroom dancers of all abilities, so if you want to find out more, get in touch!

“Certificates will be presented to all competitors on the day and there will also be trophies and medals on offer. And, our overall champions will take home the Flashpoint Trophy!”

Flashpoint is an interactive learning centre which simulates potentially dangerous and hazardous situations to deliver safety messages to children and vulnerable people across Cornwall.

Run by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, the centre guides visitors through 12 scenarios from kitchen safety to beach safety, giving practical advice on what to do if something goes wrong.
