Fire In Shop

Fore Street, Porthleven at 27/07/2012 05:10

Two fire appliances from Helston Community Fire Station and one fire appliance from Camborne Community Fire Station were mobilised to a report that smoke could be seen coming from a door of a shop.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered to find that there was a fire in the kitchen area of the ground floor shop and one hosereel was used to damp it down. The occupant of the flat above the shop had already evacuated and the occupants of the adjacent property were evacuated as a precaution. No-one has been injured as a result of the fire.

The fire is believed to have started several hours before the fire was discovered. Fortunately, the fire had not taken hold otherwise the result may have ended in tragedy. A working smoke alarm would have alerted occupants to the fire soon after it started, giving the best possible opportunity to escape safely.
