Callous Arson Attack On Emergency Telephone

A30, Eastbound, Fraddon at 12/08/2012 00:38

One fire appliance from St Columb Community Fire Station attended a report of a fire in a layby. The fire crew used one hosereel to extinguish a fire involving an Emergency SOS telephone. Arson is suspected and anyone with information on who is responsible for this senseless crime is urged to call Devon & Cornwall Police on 101, quoting log number 123 of 12/08/2012 or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"It is unbelievable to think that a person or persons are callous enough to set fire to a potentially life-saving piece of equipment. This emergency telephone is positioned in a location close to the site of a number of serious and tragic incidents on a very busy stretch of road used by thousands of visitors and residents of Cornwall each day. The delay in finding an alternative telephone to summon the emergency services should a road traffic collision, fire or medical emergency occur, may be the difference between life and death."
Watch Manager Andy Taylor, Red Watch, Fire Control.
