Barn Fire

Warleggan, Nr Bodmin at 02/09/2012 17:47

At 0854hrs Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to reports of a barn fire. Initially two appliances were mobilised one from Bodmin and one from Liskeard and due to the remote location of the barn, the water carrier from Liskeard was also mobilised. On arrival crews found that the open barn measuring approximately 40 metres x 20 metres containing bales of hay was well alight. A third appliance was quickly requested to set up a water relay, this was sent from Callington. Crews are currently using main jets and hosereel jets and a water relay system to control the fire. This incident is ongoing and any further progress will be added to this site as and when appropriate.

Good progress has been made and the hay is being allowed to burn. One appliance from Bodmin and the water carrier from Liskeard will be remaining on scene overnight to monitor.

Update 2/09/2012

During the day a large quantity of hay was removed from the barn using an on site tractor and allowed to burn under control. The incident was then handed over to the owner and the Fire and Rescue Service appliances have now left the scene.
