Fallen Electric Cable Sets Fire To Corn Field

Off the Old coach road, Lamorrick, Bodmin at 04/09/2012 14:37

Five firefighters from Bodmin attended a call to electric cables which appeared to be smoking. On crews arrival to the incident a main overhead electric cable had fallen to the ground setting a 50 metre fire front in the field. Western Power was requested to attend and isolate the 33kv power cable. Firecrews were unable to tackle the straw fire for some time because of the live electric cable. Firefighters remained in a defensive position, cordoning off the area. A second 4x4 appliance from Bodmin attended the incident with a further 5 crew to help access the incident. Fire crews used beaters to extinguish the fire which had spread outside the safety cordon. The remainin fire burned itself out. Crews remained on scene until the electricity had been isolated.
