One crew of five fire fighters from Newquay attended a call to a tractor on fire in a field at Lane, Newquay. The tractor was well alight on crews arrival and the fire was spreading to the cornfield, crews made an assistance message of 'make pumps two'. A second appliance from Newquay carrying six fire fighters attended the incident. Fire crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets initially to extinguish the fire. Railtrack was informed of the large plumes of smoke was crossing the Newquay branch line, about 5 metres away. Shortly after the arrival of the second fire crew, two breathing apparatus and a foam branch were in use.
At 14:18 hrs the fire had been extinguished, crews continued to damp down using a shuttle relay of water.
