Kitchen Severely Damaged By Fire

Chapel Park Terrace, Launceston at 20/09/2012 22:07

Two fire appliances from Launceston Community Fire Station (a total of 10 firefighters) were mobilised to a report of a dishwasher on fire inside a property.

Firefighters were quickly on scene and tackled the fire, which has severely damaged the kitchen, using two hosereels and four sets of breathing apparatus. The fire had been extinguished within 30 minutes of the time of call and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke which had affected the remainder of the mid-terraced house. The fire crews remained on scene damping down for a further hour.

A smoke alarm was clearly heard in the background whilst the initial 999 call was being taken. It is essential that every home has working smoke alarms to alert occupants to a fire and give them the best possible chance of escape.
