Burst Boiling Water Pipe Floods Basement Plant Room

RCH Treliske, Threemilestone, Truro at 10/10/2012 04:44

At 0444 this morning a call was received from Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske stating the alarms were sounding in the tower block basement part of the complex. Two appliances carrying twelve fire fighters were mobilised along with an appliance with six firefighters from Redruth. On their arrival crews found a burst boiling water pipe in a basement plant room causing steam had set the alarms off. Crews investigated further and found water had spread from the basement to the main hospital building. Working with a hospital engineer, crews attempted an emergency isolation of the water supply and firefighters then used a pump to remove the water.

Update - at 06:30 hrs with the water cleared away, all fire crews returned to their home stations.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is operating as normal and open to visitors and patients.
