Smoke Alarm Fitted by Firefighters Wakes Occupants In Smoke Filled House

St Josephs road, Lanstephan, Launceston at 18/10/2012 05:12

At 0512 hrs this morning a call was received to a property full of smoke, the occupant had been woken by alarms sounding in the property and the caller was coughing on the call. The smoke alarms in the house had been fitted by Firefighters from Cornwall Fire Service. Two fire appliances carrying twelve firefighters from Launceston attended the two storey terraced premise which measured 6 x 8 metres. Crews entered the smoke filled house wearing two breathing apparatus and one hose reel. In the house crews used a thermal imaging camera to locate and extinguish the fire which was in a MDF radiator cover. The two occupants of the property were treated for smoke inhalation on scene by Ambulance paramedics. Once the fire had been located and extinguished in the building, a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the property.

Fortunately the occupant of this property had working smoke detectors in the house which raised the alarm to the fire whilst they were sleeping. If there had been no working smoke detectors in the premise the outcome to this incident may have been far worse! Test your smoke alarms regularly.
