Dog Rescued From Mine Shaft

Eighteen firefighters from St Just, and Penzance attended a call to a dog which had fallen down a mine shaft at Trewellard. A specialist Line rescue appliance from Camborne also attended. On their arrival fire crews cleared around the shaft opening, once cleared crews lowered a firefighter using the lines and harness from a safety at height and confined spaces pack and a triple extension ladder. The firefighter being lowered monitored the shaft atmosphere using a gas detector. The cocker spaniel called Jervis was found five metres down from the shaft entrance, at the bottom of the dry pit. Jervis was recovered to the ground surface and reunited unharmed with his owner.
