At about 0120hrs Boxing Day, Police called the Fire & Rescue Service and Coastguard following a report of a dog in the water off a pontoon. There was no sign of an owner, so it was not known if there was also a person in the water.
Firefighters, some specially trained in water rescue, from Falmouth and Redruth Community Fire Stations attended along with a Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI Inshore Lifeboat and Police.
A search was initiated from the shoreline, from a Fire Service inflatable rescue boat and the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat. At 0150hrs, it was reported that the Fire Service boat had located a small dog in the water and it was recovered. Unfortunately, the dog had not survived.
The search continued for anyone that might have been with the dog by the Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI and firefighters using a thermal imaging camera. At 0300hrs the search ended with no indication of any person in the water.
