Property Fire

St. Breward, Bodmin at 26/01/2013 09:42


At 1840 hours on Friday 25 January, a call was received for a fire involving a property in the St. Breward area, acting on information gathered on the call, three fire appliances, two from Bodmin and one from Delabole were mobilised, further calls were received and a water carrier from Wadebridge and further resource from Delabole were mobilised.

The incident was classified as ‘Persons Reported’ and while resources were still en route calls were received by Cornwall Fire & Rescue Control Room stating that two properties were on fire and a further appliance from Wadebridge was mobilised.

On arrival there was found to be a semi detached bungalow, measuring eight metres by six metres, well alight which had spread to the adjoining property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus initially used two main jets and a high pressure hosereel at the scene.

Further resources were mobilised, which included the Command Support Vehicle from Launceston, the Operational Support Vehicle from St. Austell and the Welfare Vehicle from St. Dennis.

As the incident progressed a total of eight firefighters at one time were committed at the incident, using three jets and a high pressure hosereel jet, the building by this time had partially collapsed.

At approximately 1900 hours the main fire had been extinguished but crews remained on site throughout the night damping down, the occupant of the premises at this time was still unaccounted for.

Later in the evening a body was confirmed found at the scene.

A full Fire Investigation Team from Cornwall Fire & Rescue will be working with Devon & Cornwall Scenes of Crime Officers to progress their investigations throughout the day.
