Industrial Unit On Fire

Plamers way, Trenance Industrial Estate, Wadebridge at 12/02/2013 14:06

At 14:06 this afternoon a number of repeat calls were made to Cornwall Fire and Rescue service regarding a fire in an industrial unit on Trenance Industrial estate, Wadebridge. Appliances from Wadebridge, Bodmin and Padstow were mobilised to the incident in the single storey building measuring 20 x 20 metres and made up of three individual businesses. The fire started when, whilst welding, materials caught alight, this fire spread to the building. The building was well alight on the arrival of the eight fire fighters from Wadebridge and five from Bodmin, the six firefighters from Padstow were requested to attend an Agricultural merchant to the rear of the fire where agro-chemicals were stored. Fortunately on crew’s arrival acetylene gas cylinders had been removed from the fire scene.
At 14:29 hrs an assistance message of ‘make pumps four’ was made, a second appliance with five firefighters from Bodmin was mobilised. Ambulance Paramedics were requested to attend to treat one casualty suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. Fire fighters used six breathing apparatus, two jets and two hose reels connected to hydrants. The neighbouring Agricultural merchants worked with fire crews, moving materials and chemicals away from the fire scene to prevent the fire spreading and escalating.

At 1535 the incident was scaled down to two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to damp down and turn over, crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire was extinguished and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the two neighbouring businesses of smoke.
