Rame Head, Torpoint at 27/02/2013 11:19

Specialist line rescue crews from Bodmin, with a support crew from Torpoint assisted specialist line rescue crews from the RSPCA rescue a Moorland Pony stranded 70 metres down a cliff at Rame Head, Torpoint. The joint approach to the pony rescue saw two firefighters from the Fire service and one RSPCA officer were lowered down the almost sheer cliff face to the animal, which had been stranded on a ledge since the weekend. It is unknown how the pony got stuck on the cliff, however it is there as part of a grazing regime for the area. The lowered personnel coaxed the pony down the remaining 30 metres of cliff face to the beach below. The beach in the cove had no access back to the top of the cliffs. The Fire Service lowered a vet down to the beach to sedate the pony, who was recovered from the beach by a Royal Marine landing craft, the pony was led up a rescue path on to the landing craft. The Marines then transferred the Pony, Vet, Fire Service and RSPCA personnel to Cawsand.
