Cornwall FRS received approximately seventeen calls to a fire on Carn Brea. There were varying reports of a possible hot air balloon having crashed and setting the gorse alight. Appliances from Redruth and Camborne attended and found no debris or persons which would have indicated a crash site. There was a small area of gorse alight measuring approximately fifteen metres by fifteen metres which firefighters extinguished using beaters, and arson is the suspected cause.
