Six pumping appliances, an aerial ladder platform and ancillary vehicles are currently on scene and dealing with a four storey derelict building that is on fire in the Mount Wise area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using four main jets are working hard to extinguish the fire.
Update at 2028 hrs: There are now nine appliances on scene tackling the fire, steady progress is being made in firefighting operations, some nearby residents have been evacuated to a respite centre for shelter and care by the Red Cross and the Emergency Management Team.
Update at 2345 hrs: This incident is now scaling down, some crews will remain on scene damping down hotspots using jets and breathing apparatus.

Currently there are three major appliances, a Landover and an Ariel ladder platform with a total of 20 firefighters remaining on the incident ground. The Ariel ladder platform is damping down hot spots. It is currently being arranger for a surveyor from the Council to attend to assess the buildings structure. It is expected that if the building is deemed as being structurally ‘safe’ then later this morning a fire investigation will be carried out.

The fire investigation has now been completed at scene. Cornwall Fire and Rescue service has left the scene. Newquay fire crews will return to the scene through out the day to damp down any hot spots as required.
