FIRE CADETS AT CAMP

Delaware outdoor education centre at 22/08/2

Fire Cadets from Newquay, Bodmin and Bude are enjoying themselves tackling a variety of different challenges at a special camp at the Delaware Outdoor Education Centre this week.

This is the first time the cadets have had a camp together and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.

The cadets will face various challenges during the week. On Tuesday they practiced their team building skills as well as climbing and abseiling while on Wednesday they will be canoeing and kayaking and learning archery skills. On Thursday they will be orienteering in the morning and then in the afternoon will be putting all their new skills into action with a final ‘Woodland Challenge’.

“We hope that the camp will give the youngsters a variety of mental and physical activities to help build team spirit and self confidence.” said ADO Brian Crowle, Fire Cadet Leader.

“The Brigade feels it is vital to connect with young people and convey fire safety messages at this young age. We are very proud of the Fire Cadets network in Cornwall and hope that we can set up similar cadet schemes in every district of the county”

The cadets will also be assisting the Brigade with its fire safety messages, as they will be designing a new slogan for the Fire Safety Unit focusing on the Christmas Campaign.
