New Incinerator access road, St Dennis at 15/03/2013 15:30
Two fire appliances with seven firefighters from St Dennis are in attendance at a leak in a mains gas pipe. The eight inch gas pipe was damaged whilst a digger, being used in the area, caught the pipe creating two holes in the main. Wales and West Utilities engineers are in attendance at the site, trying to isolate the leak. A 200 metre exclusion zone has been set up around the leaking pipe and venting gas from the pipe is visible and being blown in a north-easterly direction.
Update at 17:30. Gas readings in near by settlements have shown negative to the presence of gas and there is no concern. Wales and West Utilities are working on site to isolate the gas supply. Currently one firefighter with staff from Cormac and Wales and West Utilities are in the area with a gas monitor, gas levels are safe to within 50 metres of the leak. It is estimated that the gas pipe will be repaired within the next 5 hours.
Update 2145hrs: Wales and West Utilities have stopped the leak. They are continuing to carry out repairs on the pipe. Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service has now left the scene.
