Cornwall County Fire Brigade are working with the RNLI and the Coastguard to ensure boat owners at Fowey Regatta week are aware of all dangers surrounding the sea and boats ownership.
The Brigade will be advising on issues surrounding boat safety and safety in the home, and the RNLI and Coastguard are giving free sea safety checks.
“Anyone volunteering for the free sea safety check is entered into a draw and at the end of the day two lucky winners will receive a flare and a smoke alarm” said Station Officer Steve Halstead, from Cornwall Fire Brigade.
The Brigade is also providing fire cover at the sea front. The high volumes of traffic congestion and people could make it difficult for the fire engine from the station to access the quay. Two sets of equipment have been set out along the sea front and the Brigade’s Rigid Inflatable Boat (Transco Phoenix) is patrolling the river during the peak periods to provide fire cover.
This does not affect normal standards of fire cover, and the crew will be on call from Fowey fire station as normal. Additional crews have been made available to staff the R.I.B.
