Articles Left Beside Woodburner Caught Alight

West Street, Kilkhampton at 09/04/2013 11:40

Nine firefighters in two appliances from Bude attended a call to a property where the occupant was shouting that there was a fire in the house. On hearing the shouting, a neighbour dialled 999 for the Fire service. The small fire was out on the crew’s arrival; however one person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the premise. On investigation it was established that combustible items left close to a wood burner had caught alight from radiant heat. Crews removed remaining combustibles close to the wood burner to a safe distance.
