Slow Burning Fire In Chimney Lintel

West Looe Hill, Looe at 09/04/2013 11:48

Seven firefighters in two appliances from Looe were sent to a property which had smoke coming from the top of the chimney and a warm chimney brest – this is normally not unusual but the occupant of the premise had not had a fire in the grate since Sunday! On their arrival crews investigated the chimney and found a slow burning fire in a timber beam of the property. Fire crews used chimney gear and small tools to make a hole in the wall of the house to access the rear of the chimney lintel and expose the seat of the fire. Once the rear of the beam had been exposed crews extinguished the fire using a stirrup pump.
