Updated: Three Pump Fire At Tate Gallery

Tate Gallery, St Ives at 27/05/2013 12:33

At 12:33 this afternoon Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received a number of calls to a fire in the Tate Gallery, St Ives. Ten firefighters on two appliances from St Ives were mobilised to the scene. The fire involved a deep fat fryer in the kitchen at the four storey building. An assistance message at 12:50 hrs for ‘make pumps three’ for breathing apparatus was made – a third appliance from Penzance with five firefighters was mobilised. Crews wore four breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using several foam fire extinguishers and a fire blanket. Using a thermal imaging camera the fire scene was inspected to ensure the fire was completely out and had not spread. The one way system outside the art gallery was closed by Devon and Cornwall Police.

At 14:18 hrs the fire in the Art Gallery had been confirmed as being extinguished. Crews used breathing apparatus to search the building and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the building.

It is believed that no damage to any art work in the gallery has occurred as a result of this fire, however this will be confirmed after further inspection.

By 15:28 - All Cornwall Fire and Rescue service had left the scene.

There are no more details available on this incident.
