At 09:25 hrs this morning, Cornwall Fire Control received several calls from boats passing Pendennis Point to a fire in the woods between Falmouth docks and the Point. One crew of five from Falmouth were mobilised to investigate the source of the smoke. At 09:47 crews found the source of the smoke seen – a single storey wooden hut located at Middle Point, off of Castle Drive. On discovery of the fire crews made up for a second appliance – five firefighters on a second appliance from Falmouth was mobilised and made the incident ‘Persons Reported’. The wooden hut measured 8 meters by 5 meters and smoke was issuing. 09:55 hrs a request for ‘Make pumps 3 and Water Carrier 1’ was made and two breathing apparatus and one hose reel was in use. Breathing apparatus teams were withdrawn from the building due to a build up of hot fire gasses and firefighting was tackled externally using main jets supplied from Hydrants. Crews used triple extension roof ladder to ventilate the gasses through the roof along with four breathing apparatus, one main jet and one hose reel. Once the fire was out crews wearing breathing apparatus were committed to search the building. After a thorough search of the premise it was established that ‘All persons were accounted for’. A fire investigation is currently being undertaken by Cornwall Fire and Rescue service.
