At 02:40 hrs this morning several calls were received to a sheltered accommodation premise where a main water pipe supplying the block of 34 flats had burst. The water was leaking on the second floor of the four storey flat complex. Three flats had severe water damage with approximately 6 inches of water on the floor on crew’s arrival; the water was also affecting the buildings electrics. Six firefighters from St Ives isolated the water supply to the building and also the electrics which had been affected by the flooding. A Red Cross Welfare and Fire and Emergency support service vehicle (FESS) from Falmouth attended the incident to offer temporary shelter and support to three of the buildings occupants who were unable to return to their homes during the flooding. The arrangement of accomodation foe the people affected has been left with their housing association. An electrician and plumber is on site making the building safe. Firefighters remained on scene carrying out a salvage operation.
