Person Not Woken By Smoke Alarms Sounding

Church Street, Helston at 02/10/2013 20:27

At 20:27 this evening a call was received from a Landlady who had been informed by a tenant that alarms were sounding in a flat in a property. Six firefighters from Helston were mobilised to investigate the alarms. On arrival the property was smoke logged and two firefighters broke entry to the property via a window – crews entered the building wearing two breathing apparatus and one hose reel. On report of smoke in the building a second landrover appliance was mobilised to the incident with four crew from Helston. On entering the premise though a bedroom window the occupant of the property received a shock when the firefighters entered the room as she was fast asleep in bed – completely unaware of the alarms sounding in the property! Crews kept the occupant in a room separate from the fire until it had been extinguished. The fire involved food which had been left in a cooker and was quickly extinguished. Once the fire was out crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was confined to the cooker.
