Fire in Property

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service received a call to smoke issuing from a property in St Ives. On receipt of this call four pumping appliances from St Ives, Penzance and Camborne Community Fire Stations were mobilised along with the Areal Ladder Platform from Newquay as well as two wholetime officers.

The two storey building measuring 20m by 15m used as an arcade, coffee and tearoom and residential accommodation was well alight when the crews arrived on scene.
A further assistance message was received shortly after, totalling the pumping appliances to seven in addition to the Command Support vehicle from St Just and Operational Support Vehicle from Falmouth, the Welfare vehicle from St Dennis, the Water Carrier from Helston, and the Red Cross Fire & Emergency Support Service Vehicle.

The fire was located on the ground floor of the building - six fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus proceeded to fight the fire using two high pressure hosereel jets and one main jet.
Western Power is currently in attendance trying to isolate the electric.

Fire Investigation will be carried out once its deemed safe to do so to establish the cause of the fire.

A full Fire Investigation Team attended the premise this morning and continued their investigations during the day, the cause was classified as accidental. No further information is available on this incident.
