Fire In Derelict Hotel

The first of 16 calls was received at 0623hrs to a fire at the former Hollies Hotel in Penryn Street, Redruth. Fire appliances from Redruth, Camborne and Falmouth attended and were confronted with a serious fire within the building. Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, worked quickly using hosereels to knock down the flames by 0700hrs. The building was searched and it was confirmed that no people were inside. The fire was fully extinguished by 0730hrs and arson is suspected as the cause. Devon & Cornwall Police are investigating. Penryn Street was closed whilst the fire crews dealt with the incident.

In total, 30 firefighters were at the scene and through their quick action they undoubtedly saved the building from being destroyed.
