Lower Market Street, Penryn at 01/11/2013 11:31
At 11:31 this morning Cornwall Fire and Rescue service received a call to a large gas leak coming from the pavement area outside the Terrace on Lower Market Street, Penryn. Five firefighters in a major appliance from Falmouth were immediately mobilised to the scene and Transco was requested to attend. The fire service identified the source of the gas leak and used dammit paste to attempt to make a temporary repair to the pipe. Police officers redirected traffic and closed the road outside the area of the Terrace. The occupants of properties adjacent to the gas leak were advised to remain in their properties but to keep their windows open to allow ventilation. At 12:08 this afternoon Wales and West Utilities engineers were in attendance along with a gang who will have to dig the road up and repair the damaged pipe.
Currently (12:50) Lower Market Street heading in the direction of the Penryn Community College has been closed. Travel down through the town towards Penryn Bridge is unaffected.
