Bodmin Fire Station at 29/09/2002 09:30
Fire Cadets from Newquay, Bude and Bodmin will be provided with an overview of how Cornwall County Fire Brigade’s Fairness Group works, including its aims and objectives, at a special Cadet Day at Bodmin Fire Station on Sunday, Sept 29th.
The main focus of the Day is to inform the cadets about how issues surrounding fairness and equality affect the fire service and to get them thinking about how the County Council can promote recruitment to under-represented groups within the Fire Brigade.
Questions that the cadets will be asked to consider include
what is fairness and equality
who do the fire brigade need to make aware of the fairness and equality policies
who is it aimed at.
After discussions on these topics they will be separated into groups and asked to focus on one area of equality and to produce ideas for promotional materials in the future.
“The Day is all about promoting Fairness and Equality within the Brigade and involving the fire cadets to help us achieve it," said Rachel Hutchings, Community Fire Safety Advisor and BFG member
“The cadets will spend the day discussing their views and ideas on the subject and putting them down on paper. These designs will hopefully help the Brigade with its recruitment marketing material.”
“The cadets will also meet some new faces in the Brigade, those members of the Brigade Fairness Group, and work alongside them when discussing ideas for the future”
The involvement of the cadets in this venture will help ensure that the Brigade is aware of how the younger generation think. The cadets could be potential recruits to the Brigade in the future and if not them then certainly people who are their age now.
The work will also go towards helping the cadets achieve part of their GNVQ.
