This evening Cornwall Fire and Rescue service have been inundated with calls and have been in spate for flooding and weather related incidents. Fire Control began receiving calls for flooding at around 2100 and up until midnight over 100 emergency calls was answered. Flooding was experienced from Helston in the west right up to Launceston in the east. A range of Incidents was attended by Cornwall fire and rescue service mobilised appliances during this time to domestic flooding, persons trapped in vehicles in flood water, electricity cables down and one fire. Currently (00:20) eleven appliances are attending incidents thorough the county although numbers of calls have dropped off since midnight although requests to flooding are still being received.
Currently there is concern about St Johns Bridge in Helston a number of agencies are in attendance as it is believed that the river may burst its banks. Crews are currently using two main pumps to remove water from the highway, a High volume pump from Newquay is currently being set up ready to pump water to alleviate pressure on the bridge. A second High Volume Pump from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue is currently on its way to the scene at Helston.
