Fire In Restaurant Fought By About 60 Firefighters

Slipways, Fish Street, St Ives at 28/02/2004 10:40

Approx 60 firefighters from St Ives, Penzance, St Just, Helston, Truro, Camborne, Newquay and Falmouth were involved in fighting a fire, which involved the upper floors and roof space of the four storey terraced property.

The fire started at around 1040hrs and quickly spread through ducting to involve the upper floors of the property.

Firefighters contained the blaze and prevented it spreading to adjoining properties which were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Access to the building, other than to the front elevation, proved difficult and meant that firefighters had to use an aerial ladder platform and fire brigade ladders to effect access to the roof space.

The professional and swift actions of Fire Control and the initial attending crews were critical to the successful containment of the fire.
